Reader’s Theater Presentations

Hi Families,

I wanted to send a quick reminder that we will be having a small celebration this Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00. Students will be presenting their reader’s theater scripts and sharing a healthy snack. Our room parent is gathering a few healthy snacks that we can share at that time. Please do not send anything in unless you have been asked. Our School’s policy has changed this year and we need to be sure that we are following the new guidelines. Thanks for your understanding! I hope that you will be able to join us for this brief performance. If you are unable to attend, don’t worry! There will be more reading performances throughout the year. Have a wonderful Day!

NECAP

The kids have been working really hard this week during our NECAP assessments. It is a challenge to stay seated, working and silent for up to an hour and a half per session, but the kids are doing an incredible job! Tomorrow is our last day with two sessions, so we are almost finished. I have provided an extra snack for each of the morning sessions, but the kiddos were really hungry yesterday for the second session. Please send in an extra snack tomorrow for the afternoon session.

Mazza’s field trip is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15th. We will be leaving school at 9:00 and will return by 11:10. If you are joining us, please be here by 9:00. Students should dress for the weather (layers are best). We will be going even if it rains, so please dress accordingly. Students can also bring quarters if they want to feed the animals. This is always a fun trip, so lets hope for some great fall weather!

Picture re-takes will be held on November 6th. If your child would like to have their picture re-taken, they need to return the original picture packet on that day.

Thanks and have a wonderful day!

A Few Updates!

Happy Friday Families!

We had another busy week here in room 193! We spent some time this week getting ready for next week’s NECAP assessments. We talked about test vocabulary and looked at a few release items. Students have their practice packets in their Friday Folders. Please help your child be as successful as possible by getting them to bed on time, eating a healthy breakfast and sending in a healthy snack and water bottle. We will be testing M-F next week and therefore will have a different schedule. We will have reading homework, but no math next week. We will not have a spelling test next week either.

There seems to be some confusion regarding spelling tests. We are still building our routine, but I wanted to be sure you understood the expectations. Students are given a spelling list in class each week. We learn about the skill on Monday and do a sound map (ask your child about this). Throughout the week, we work on a variety of activities to learn the spelling rules/words. Students can go on Spelling City from home to work on their words. (Information can be found in the front of their planner). I typically do not send a spelling list home, but can have the students write their words in their planner if needed. Please look at your child’s spelling test on Monday afternoons. If they are not passing, they should try to find some extra time to practice at home. If you have any questions, please contact me.

We had an exciting afternoon with our reading buddies! Be sure to ask your child about it. Have a wonderful weekend!
