This is just a friendly reminder that open house is tonight from 6:30 – 7:30. I hope you can all make it this evening!

Grandma Grace

Fox 44 News was here today to interview our very own Grandma Grace! The students were really excited to have them visit our classroom and were really well behaved. The interview will be on Fox 44 tonight at 10 and possibly on ABC 22 at 6 or 7. You can also visit  http://www.mychamplainvalley.com/home

Open House and Book Orders

MBS open house will be this Thursday 9/25 from 6:30 – 7:30. Please come in to check out some of the work your child has done and take a tour of the school using a student made scavenger hunt. This will be a nice way for your child to show off their classroom and meet some of their new teachers and friends. I hope you will all be able to join us!

Please remember to turn in the book orders by Wednesday morning. If you are ordering online, you have until 3:00 to enter them because  I will be sending them out that afternoon.  Thanks for encouraging your child to read at home!

Outdoor Classroom

We spent some time this morning in the outdoor classroom making maps. Students explored the garden enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds of nature. Please be sure to ask your child about this fun activity!

Map Walk

Last week during our Mapping/ Colchester unit students had the opportunity to walk between Mrs. Cioffi ‘s and our classroom to explore a wide variety of maps. Students made observations and shared them with friends. Tomorrow we will have a mapping scavenger hunt to find out even more about maps. Students will begin thinking about our amazing town and why it is a unique place to live . Be sure to ask them about these activities.

The Paper Challenge!

The lightning bolts worked together to complete a building challenge in class today. Teams had the challenge of creating a structure that can hold an entire ream of paper. The structure can only use one single sheet of paper. Teams did an amazing job and were very creative. Be sure to ask your child about it.

We’ve had a great start!

Hello Families,

It has been a busy week in room 193! We have spent a great deal of time getting to know one another and  collaborated to create classroom expectations for work times and behavior. The class voted  and decided that our class name will be  The Lightning Bolts this year. Be sure to ask your child about some of the other fun names they discussed.  Students have  also worked really hard on a  variety of assessments . They are ready to jump right in!

Next week we will start a review unit  in math, a narrative writing unit and  our Colchester/mapping unit. The homework  assignment will be to read  for at least 20 minutes on four nights  as well as practicing their math facts (see Xtra Math letter in planner). Reading logs  should be signed and returned on Fridays. Thank you for your support with this and have a great weekend!
