Picture Re-takes are Tomorrow

If you are interested in having your child re-take their school picture please return the originals tomorrow. Be sure to let me know so that I can send your child down for a new photo.

Four Winds

We have had two fantastic four winds classes with Mrs. Petterson! Please be sure to ask your child what they remember about sunlight from September.

All set with pretzels for Now

Thank you to the Moskowitz and Thibodeau families for sending in a few packs of pretzels! I will let you know when we run out.

Classroom Updates

Happy Friday Families!

Things have been very busy here in room 193! We are finishing up unit 2 in math and will be taking our assessment early next week. Thanks for all of your help practicing math facts with your child at home.  Unit 3’s focus will be on measurement, so break out those rulers!

We are also completing our unit on mapping skills and Colchester soon and starting an exciting unit on the Solar System.

In Literacy we have been working on point of view and have discussed narrators and characters. We are also comparing and contrasting stories by the same author as well as similar stories with a twist. We will be presenting a readers theater on October 31st to celebrate all of their hard work.

In writing we have worked on developing strong leads/beginnings, dialogue and using descriptions of actions, thoughts and feelings. Students have been working on their narrative and will be sharing them at the end of the semester.

Next week I will begin our Fall reading assessments to measure growth and help me plan for our next semester together.

FALL CELEBRATION: Please look for an email from Angel LaBelle who will be organizing some healthy snacks for our Reader’s Theater celebration on 10/31/14 from 1:45 – 2:45. Students will all be working on this fluency activity for the next few weeks and are excited to share them with you! I hope many of you can make it to the celebration. Please help Angel with this fun afternoon.

I’d also like to thank the Palmer family for donating a new bean bag to our classroom. The others have seen better days. I am looking for packing peanuts to refill the others so please let me know if you know where to get them. Thanks!

I’d also like to thank the McCullagh, Gauthier and Halilovic families for donating pretzels. The kiddos are really hungry by the end of the day and a pretzel stick or small handful of pretzels has been a nice way to end the day. Feel free to send your child with their own snack or let me know if you would like to make a donation when we run out.

Thank you all for your continued support! Have a nice long weekend.

We had a hectic end of the day and a few buses were called as I was passing out school pictures. If your child does not have them today, they will get them in the morning.

I will be sending home spelling tests on Mondays. There is not always time on Friday afternoon to print them off and record grades, therefore I will be sending them home each Monday.

Today your child brought home their scores for the addition and subtraction timed tests. The goal is 36/40. Please look at your child’s score and have them practice at home if they have not met the expectation. Thank you for your support!

Mazza’s Pumpkin Patch

We had an incredible trip to the pumpkin patch last week! Students enjoyed a nice walk and tractor ride. They were also able to pick their perfect pumpkin, share a yummy snack and spend some time on the playground and with the animals. It was a beautiful fall day! Thank you chaperones for all of your help!
